3 things to consider before your business photo shoot

If you're thinking about having business photos taken, your first thought is probably "It's about time I had some professional portrait photos.” That's completely natural. But in most cases, you'll soon realise that you'll need much more than that.

A business photoshoot isn't just about looking good in your photos. It's just as important that the images are easy to use later in your business communication. That's why it's worth considering a few aspects before the photo shoot.

1. Leave space for copy

Many people only realise a photo isn't particularly useful for a website or an advertisement once they start adding text to it. The headline covers part of the image, overlaps your face or there's simply no space for the text.

That's why it's important to think not only about what kind of photos you want, but also about where and how you'll use them later. If we know in advance which images will need space for a headline, a slogan or a call-to-action button, we can compose them accordingly.

It may seem like a small detail, but it makes a huge difference. It saves time, avoids unnecessary frustration and gives you images that are much easier to use on your website, across your social media channels or in your marketing materials.

2. Think about where you'll use your photos

A LinkedIn profile picture, a photo for your CV, a Facebook cover image and a website hero banner all require different formats and compositions.

If you only have one type of image, it may work perfectly on one platform but not on another.

That's why we don't just create traditional portrait photos. We'll also take horizontal and vertical images with different compositions, so you'll always have the right photo for wherever you want to use it.

3. Don't Stop at Portraits

For most businesses, a few portraits simply aren't enough. In fact, this is probably the most common aspect business owners overlook.

At first, they're delighted with their new portraits. Then, a few weeks later, they write a blog post, publish something on Facebook, update a service on their website, and realise they don't have a suitable image to go with it.

That's why it's worth creating photos that show you working, talking to a client, taking notes, using your laptop, or simply capturing your workspace and the tools you use every day.

These are the images you'll keep coming back to. You can use them in blog posts, on social media, in advertisements or throughout different sections of your website.

The goal shouldn't simply be to end up with a few beautiful portraits. The goal is to have images that you'll still be able to use in your communication months later.

The success of a business photo shoot isn't measured by how many portraits you receive. It's measured by whether, six months from now, you can still open your image library and find the right photo for your next blog post, your website or a new marketing campaign.
