How a dog photoshoot works with me
How to prepare for the photoshoot

What outfit should you choose?
- Avoid bright colors and heavily patterned clothing, as they can be distracting and don’t photograph well.
- Choose neutral and earthy tones.
- Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely, so you don’t have to worry about it pulling or slipping during the session.
- Don’t hesitate to sit down on the grass if needed (though it’ll probably get dirty anyway, since your dog will jump around).
- "If more people are participating, it’s important for the overall effect that your outfits harmonize in both colorr and style.
What kind of photos can be taken during a dog photo session?
Before the photoshoot, we discuss the types of images you want. We follow a general plan, but often improvise based on the situation and the dog.
1. Dog portraits
At the beginning of the photoshoot, we usually start with some static poses as a warm-up. These are traditional, posed portraits (sit, stand, lie down). After that, I focus on capturing spontaneous moments to showcase the dog’s personality. Towards the end of the session, we repeat the posed shots to take advantage of the beautiful sunset light. Not every dog can hold a pose, so we never force it. We also take several short breaks throughout the session.
2. Pet and owner
We start with a few posed shots, then I capture photos during play, walks, and interaction with the dog. The dog shapes the flow of the session, creating plenty of spontaneous, funny, or emotional moments. These become the unforgettable shared moments and images that will continue to warm any owner’s heart. I also often accommodate the owners’ requests when they want to create a specific envisioned shot with their dog.
3. In action
When dogs switch to full speed, that’s when the really exciting photos happen—running, fetching, sports, and play! Owners often can’t imagine the moments we can 'freeze' in a shot, because this isn’t really possible with a smartphone. Ears flying, the dog suspended in mid-air, funny expressions—it all gets captured. Increasingly, owners request these kinds of photos, which show their pets in a way that’s far from ordinary or everyday.
How do you get your photos?
After the photoshoot, I pre-select the images so you only have to choose from the best ones, saving you time. In action photography, for example, I shoot in bursts rather than single shots, which can result in hundreds of images.
I’ll create a private gallery for you on Pixieset, accessible only with a password. Here, I upload the minimally corrected, unretouched images. You can indicate which photos you want by clicking the heart icon in the corner of each image. That’s all you need to do—I’ll see which photos you’ve selected.
To ensure the highest quality, I deliver the final photos via email or through WeTransfer for large files, within the deadline specified in the contract.
How will your photos stay sharp and beautiful, no matter where you upload them?
Have you ever uploaded a sharp photo somewhere, only to find it turned blurry, and wondered why?
The explanation is quite simple. Photos need to be prepared differently for each platform or usage. What looks good on Facebook might not work on Instagram. Did you know that the sharpness can also vary depending on the browser you use and the device you upload the images from?
On a blog or website with multiple image boxes, where you’re unsure about the correct format or size for uploading, chaos can easily occur. It makes a big difference whether we resize and sharpen the images properly, or leave it to a software to handle. And that’s not even mentioning print.
But there’s no need to worry—I take care of everything. We’ll discuss where you want to use the photos, and I’ll create the requested versions (general / Facebook / Instagram / website / print) at no extra cost, so they always look great, everywhere.
