5 dog-friendly photo spots in and around Budapest
with spring flowers
1. Margaret Island
If I had to sum up in one sentence why you should choose Margaret Island, I’d say that it ideally combines good lights with suitable backgrounds, which is the recipe for beautiful pictures. It’s also easily accessible by public transport and offers a diverse environment
In March, the magnolia and cherry trees bloom, and you can smell the holly-leaved barberry from afar. The pink dwarf Russian almond or the red leaves of Photinia can also provide a colorful spring background. If you like wild flowers, you’ll love the lesser celandine forming a carpet in some places or Corydalis cava shining in the backlight (that is when something is photographed against the sun).
The Japanese garden and the ruins of the Dominican monastery also offer countless opportunities for photography. Here, it might be worth considering taking photos in the morning, because there can be a lot of other people on good photo spots.
2. Tóth Árpád sétány (promenade) in Buda
On Tóth Árpád sétány (promenade), you’ll find blooming pink cherry trees coupled with a spectacular view stretching for a few hundred meters. Blooming is expected at the beginning of April and attracts a lot of people, so it’s especially important to schedule the shoot for mornings and weekdays.
3. Hajógyári sziget
It’s a really popular location among dog masters and it's easily accessible by public transport. It's also the only place in Budapest where you don't have to put a leash on your dog.
You should bear in mind that there are many dogs here, which can be disturbing for some dogs. The masters don’t necessarily discipline their furry friends running wildly to and fro, which isn’t favourable for a calm photo shoot. It’s especially a good idea to keep your pet on a leash during the photo shoot.
4. Kevély-hegy
The Kevélyhegy Tulip Field, located about 15 km from Budapest in Pilisborosjenő, is dog-friendly, making it a great spot for dog photography and owner-and-dog photoshoots.
The sight of thousands of colorful tulips is truly spectacular. Looking ahead a bit: in June, lavender photoshoots will also be available here, in areas specifically designated for photography.
5. Gellért Hill
This is a well-known location in the center of the city that can be reached by public transport easily. Don't let the great number of tourists put you off. We opt for less visited locations here.
