How to keep your dog calm

Before and during a photo shoot, many masters worry that their dog will be too excited, uncooperative, or won’t do the tricks they want to immortalize in the photos. Here are some tips to help your dog stay calm.

Make the environment comfortable

  • Familiar location: Choose a place that your dog knows well so that he’ll be less nervous.
  • Calm environment: Too much noise or too many people, runners, cyclists or other dogs can distract your pet, making it harder for your furry friend to concentrate. Just avoid these places.

Take time to warm up

  • Always arrive early: Let your dog burn off some energy with running or playing fetch before the photo shoot begins. This will also give it a chance to get to know the location.
  • Wait for the right moment: There’s no need to rush. We’ll start taking photos when your dog calmed down a bit and is ready.

Use treats and praise

  • Treats: You can use your dog’s favorite treats as motivation. It’s important, however, that they don’t snack beforehand—reward them only after they’ve done what you asked.
  • Praise: Positive reinforcement always helps your dog feel good during the photo shoot and do what you ask it to do.

Take a break and be patient

  • Rest if necessary: If your dog gets too excited, take a break. Both you and your pet will benefit from a short rest.
  • Don’t force it: If your pet doesn’t want to be photographed, we don’t force it. However, they’re always willing to give a hug or play with their beloved master, so I’ll capture these spontaneous and precious moments.
