Photographing dogs in a photo studio
When it comes to dog photography in a studio, you can choose from two types of them: furnished studios and classical studios. Let’s see what the difference is between them.
Types of studios
Furnished photo studios look like a living room (or bedroom or maybe a kitchen), while classical studios are actually empty, apart from a few backdrops and props. I don’t want to write about any advantages or disadvantages, because I think it’s completely a matter of personal taste. It’s up to you to choose depending on what kind of photos you want.

Classical, unfurnished studios
Let’s go back for a moment to that first sentence. An empty studio? Why would you go there? The question is fair, and the answer is simple: because empty studios offer endless possibilities for creating clean, timeless images that will impress anyone who sees them—especially as large canvas prints.
We can work with backdrops of different textures, and there’s also room to play with lighting, shadows, and various props.
Which are these?
- various floral and beaded collars, ties, and bow ties
- blankets, wooden crates, and various props
- birthday props, balloons
- Christmas props
Dog-friendly studios
A much more important aspect is how dog-friendly the studio is. During a free consultation before the photo shoot, I’m happy to recommend photo studios in Budapest, but if you want to find one yourself, it’s a good idea to pay attention to the ’fine print’. Many pet-friendly studios have restrictions, such as the number and weight of animals, which also affect the length of the photo session.
For example, a studio is dog-friendly, but
- if you want to rent it for 1 hour, the net rental time is only 50 minutes or 45 minutes; or
- if your dog weighs more than 5 kilos or you have more than two dogs, you have to rent the room for an extra hour so that it can be cleaned and ventilated afterwards, etc.
This may somewhat limit our options, but I know all the dog-friendly photo studios in Budapest, so I can recommend studios where you can take a larger dog or several dogs without restrictions, so this should not be an obstacle either. 🙂
